Martha’s Vineyard Massachusetts

Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts

Just south of Cape Cod, Massachusetts is the island of Martha’s Vineyard.   You can only arrive there by ferry or plane, just check for the different ports that leave from Cape Cod and times. One company to check is the www.Steamshipauthority.com.  Martha’s Vineyard is 7 miles from Cape Cod (which makes for an enjoyable ferry ride).  Because the island is a very popular summer destination, it is highly recommended to make reservations for the ferry, especially if you plan on taking your car. The island prefers visitors not taking their car, but to see the island by walking, biking (rentals are available), shuttle/bus service or taxi. Six towns make up Martha’s Vineyard: Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, Vineyard Haven, West Tisbury, Chilmark and Aquinnah. Each town is unique, with so much to offer, from beaches, boating, biking & hiking trails, museums, art galleries and array of fantastic restaurants (don’t leave without having tasted a lobster roll). There is something for every age group. Just a little high light from each town: Oak Bluffs has the oldest carousel in America that is still operating. Edgartown had the first settlement on the island. Vineyard Haven has a lot of maritime history dating back to the 1800’s. West Tisbury host the annual popular Agricultural Fair every August. Chilmark has the hills and pastures and beautiful sunsets. Aquinnah is where you can purchase hand-made native items and view the Cliffs from the Aquinnah Lighthouse.
