Aquinnah is a town located on the western-end of Martha’s Vineyard Island.  If possible, take a blanket or chair with you so that you can take in the beautiful spectacular views of Aquinnah.  Known for its beautiful clay cliffs and the serenity you will feel there.  For a beautiful sunset go to the Gay Head Lighthouse, located at 9 Aquinnah Circle.  There is also an overlook which is a short walk from the lighthouse.  During the season, the hours to visit the lighthouse are from 4:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M., but always check before going.

Gay Head has historical importance to the native Wampanoag people. The Aquinnah Cultural Center features the history and heritage of the Wampanoag Indians.  The center is located at 35 Aquinnah Circle, where they offer guided tours.  You will be able to find leatherwork and jewelry made by Native Americans among some of the gift shops and places to eat.

In 1965, Gay Head Cliffs were designated as a National Natural Landmark by the National Park Service.
